About

Introduction

There is a lot said about the green lifestyle and ‘going green - whether we can make a difference and what effect can an individual have on the global problem of climate change for example.

Well look at it this way, if nobody did anything – nothing would get done. This blog is aimed at giving people the opportunity to change for a green lifestyle, by discussing the subject and gathering the latest news topics, ideas and products together in one place.

Sustainable Living

An exact measure of sustainable living is to calculate your carbon footprint then to seek ways to reduce it to a sustainable level. WWF have a simple calculator that compares your footprint to the number of planet Earths required should all the world’s population live the same way. Another is Nature Conservancy where your footprint is compared to the U.S. national average.

Simple tips to reduce your footprint could include…

  • Cut Down On Meat And Dairy Products
  • Eat More Local And Seasonal Food
  • Avoid Buying Food From Far Away Places
  • Cycle Or Walk Short Journeys Instead Of Using The Car
  • Turn The Heating Down In Unused Rooms
  • Turn Down The House Thermostat By 1 or 2 Degrees
  • Turn The Refridgerator Down To Between 3 to 5 Degrees
  • Avoid Over Packaged Products

…and they wouldn’t impact your lifestyle by much either.

Green Shopping

There are many products available with green credentials, from energy saving light bulbs through to organic food produce.

Reuters writes…
US shoppers are going green despite the struggling economy….U.S. supermarket sales of environmentally sustainable or “ethical” products will rise about 8.7 percent in 2009 to nearly $38 billion, according to a recent study by Packaged Facts, a market research provider. ~Source

We will showcase some of the latest products to find the market here, so you can have the opportunity to buy or recommend them to friends.

Energy And Carbon

Energy resources are always about to run out according to the most pessimistic sources. That new resources are getting more difficult to find there can be no doubt. Conservation and renewable energy sources help to reduce our carbon based energy consumption thus reducing carbon emissions whilst conserving stocks.

There is much an individual or household can do in this area, like…

  • Insulating The Roof Space
  • Wall Insulation
  • Fitting Double Glazing
  • Disconnecting Appliances When Not In Use
  • Fitting Solar Water Heating
  • Collecting Rainwater For Use In Bathrooms
  • Ground Source Room Heating

…which are just a few ideas from the top of my head.

We will showcase new technologies here, renewable energy sources, conservation ideas, and the latest carbon emissions and climate change news.

The Author

Copy (2) of MyPhoto My name is Michael Hogg and I have been studying the environment, sustainable living, and renewable energy  resources since 1999, and have much experience with it’s application.

I am of the belief that as a collective, we can make a difference in influencing the decision makers and changing attitudes. How can trends like that in the Reuters article be ignored, when consumers are voting with their GREEN product selections!

These are exciting times, there is much happening in the Green Lifestyle world. Manufacturers are waking up to the idea that this is a growing sector, consequently there are lots of new products coming onto todays marketplace, and the quality just gets better and better.

If anyone would like to contribute either with ideas, suggestions or as an author, you can use the contact page to let me know and I’ll get back to you.

Sincerely,
